Juan Matos Capote is a Spanish sound and visual artist from the Canary Islands, based in Barcelona, Spain.

As a musician, he is an improviser and composer. He plays his own scratch built and modified electronic devices (radios, oscillators, toys, etc.), video and field recordings.

He studied techniques of Circuit Bending with the pioneer Reed Ghazala in Ohio, United States, and techniques of Deep Listening with Pauline Oliveros, Ione and Heloise Gold.

He has performed at diferent festivals such as:

He is also one half of Monolith (circuit bending – electro acustic duo with artist Alfredo Costa Monteiro), Matos & Sjöberg (audio visual duo with video artist Noemi Sjöberg), and was part of Thick Wisps (electronic duo with artist Giancarlo Bracchi).

He teachs Circuit Bending workshops to groups as well as to individuals.

As a visual artist, he studied at the University of La laguna, Canary Islands, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts. He also studied at the National Higher Institute for Fine Arts (Antwerp, Belgium), and at Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, New York) where he received his Program of Masters of Fine Arts Degree. His latest exhibitions were at the Dak’art Biennale OFF 2008 in Senegal, at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (MoMA) in New York, and at Centre d’art La Panera in Lleida in 2010.
